00:00:00,320 --> 00:00:03,692
Who are the saints we celebrate
on this Feast of All Saints?
2
00:00:04,640 --> 00:00:07,123
Many saints have their own feast day:
3
00:00:07,123 --> 00:00:10,838
St Joseph, St Patrick, St Mary MacKillop
4
00:00:10,838 --> 00:00:12,560
and, of course, the Great Mother of God.
5
00:00:13,680 --> 00:00:17,640
Yet there are many saints who are less
well know, or perhaps are know only to God.
6
00:00:18,800 --> 00:00:23,040
In the Book of Revelation, St
John describes a vast multitude,
7
00:00:23,040 --> 00:00:26,920
"impossible to count", standing
before the throne of God.
8
00:00:28,240 --> 00:00:31,120
All these are the saints of God:
9
00:00:31,120 --> 00:00:35,840
those who have responded generously to
the lavish love of God in this life.
10
00:00:37,040 --> 00:00:42,560
They are the peacemakers, the meek, those
who hunger and thirst for what is right.
11
00:00:44,160 --> 00:00:50,160
In a word, those who have responded to
the love of God with love of their neighbour.
12
00:00:51,520 --> 00:00:57,440
They are those who have been co-labourers with
Christ in the great work of the Kingdom of God.
13
00:00:59,360 --> 00:01:03,585
Today we rightly celebrate the saints and
rejoice in their glory.
14
00:01:04,640 --> 00:01:07,441
But let their example also stir our hearts.
15
00:01:08,640 --> 00:01:11,588
For where they have
gone before us, we are called to follow.
16
00:01:13,480 --> 00:01:17,200
Each of us is called to live
lives of authentic holiness.
17
00:01:18,160 --> 00:01:22,147
Yet we cannot arrive at holiness
by our own efforts,
18
00:01:22,147 --> 00:01:26,800
we need the help of God and the powerful
intercession of all the saints.
19
00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:30,720
With their help, and following their example,
20
00:01:30,720 --> 00:01:34,360
let us seek to live the values
proclaimed in the Beatitudes.
21
00:01:35,120 --> 00:01:41,160
For we too are God's beloved sons and
daughters, and we too are called to be saints.
22
00:01:43,120 --> 00:01:49,120
May the saints pray for us, that one
day we may join that great multitude,
23
00:01:49,120 --> 00:01:54,160
which stands before the throne of
God, forever praising His Holy Name.
