1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:01,920 I am Sr Teresa Lau. 2 00:00:02,440 --> 00:00:06,926 For my sixty years of experience in community life, 3 00:00:06,926 --> 00:00:10,006 I found challenging to start with, 4 00:00:10,006 --> 00:00:13,599 because I start in an international formation 5 00:00:13,599 --> 00:00:16,945 and there were ten of us in my group. 6 00:00:17,604 --> 00:00:21,600 And we have different people from Thailand, 7 00:00:21,600 --> 00:00:25,471 Philippines, Hong Kong and other places. 8 00:00:26,199 --> 00:00:31,534 And I learned how to adjust to each other. 9 00:00:31,892 --> 00:00:34,127 First for me, was a language 10 00:00:34,127 --> 00:00:36,522 because I didn't speak English much 11 00:00:36,522 --> 00:00:38,510 so it was an effort. 12 00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:43,172 The next challenge is that we have the lessons, 13 00:00:43,172 --> 00:00:47,331 we have to recite certain parts of the scripture, which was a big thing for me. 14 00:00:48,614 --> 00:00:51,058 But apart from the challenges, 15 00:00:51,058 --> 00:00:54,116 I think there's a lot of joy in the community 16 00:00:54,116 --> 00:00:58,999 because we love, we share, each other's 17 00:00:58,999 --> 00:01:02,880 experiences because a lot of us have been working 18 00:01:02,880 --> 00:01:05,759 and some of them have been just finishing their study. 19 00:01:06,303 --> 00:01:11,582 And there was so much joy throughout the world 20 00:01:11,582 --> 00:01:15,533 and all through my sixty years I worked in about 21 00:01:15,533 --> 00:01:18,899 and I live in about five different communities, 22 00:01:18,899 --> 00:01:23,680 a different number, the highest number I live was about twenty of us in the community, 23 00:01:23,680 --> 00:01:25,516 and the lowest one was about five. 24 00:01:25,921 --> 00:01:28,511 So there was a big adjustment 25 00:01:28,511 --> 00:01:31,989 but there's one thing that is in common was 26 00:01:31,989 --> 00:01:36,144 we learn to love each other, share with each other's joy 27 00:01:36,144 --> 00:01:37,908 and support each other, 28 00:01:37,908 --> 00:01:44,554 because some of us find it difficult to talk 29 00:01:44,554 --> 00:01:48,784 because of the personal differences 30 00:01:48,784 --> 00:01:51,000 and language was another one. 31 00:01:51,571 --> 00:01:54,386 But it's always 32 00:01:54,386 --> 00:01:58,567 joy out of that, even with different language skill 33 00:01:58,567 --> 00:02:01,988 and the experience was 34 00:02:01,988 --> 00:02:05,487 once the sister came home and said, 35 00:02:05,487 --> 00:02:07,050 'I ate a computer.' 36 00:02:07,605 --> 00:02:09,845 So we asked, 37 00:02:09,845 --> 00:02:12,129 'what do you mean by you ate a computer?' 38 00:02:12,684 --> 00:02:16,513 And we all laughed because she said, 'I ate cucumber today.' 39 00:02:16,859 --> 00:02:20,399 So that was a joy that we shared. 40 00:02:21,289 --> 00:02:23,704 And then there's among many other things like that. 41 00:02:23,912 --> 00:02:27,549 But also we have shared the worries, 42 00:02:27,549 --> 00:02:30,000 the work that we work together, 43 00:02:30,000 --> 00:02:32,391 the studies that we share 44 00:02:32,391 --> 00:02:35,053 and the formation that we receive. 45 00:02:36,140 --> 00:02:40,382 Of course in a community, we also share the housework, 46 00:02:40,382 --> 00:02:46,537 we pray together, because in prayer we join in union not only 47 00:02:46,537 --> 00:02:49,985 the local community that I live but also the 48 00:02:49,985 --> 00:02:54,132 other communities in the district and in the whole congregation. 49 00:02:54,433 --> 00:02:58,721 So we share each other's prayer, joy, 50 00:02:58,721 --> 00:03:03,678 for example if a sister passes away in other countries 51 00:03:03,678 --> 00:03:06,256 they send us a notice, we pray for them. 52 00:03:06,256 --> 00:03:10,285 So that great support that you have in the community 53 00:03:10,285 --> 00:03:12,436 which I do treasure very much. 54 00:03:13,084 --> 00:03:19,380 And for us we also have time to be silent, 55 00:03:19,380 --> 00:03:23,383 that means to respect each other's place 56 00:03:23,383 --> 00:03:28,913 and union with God during prayer, recreation, study. 57 00:03:29,410 --> 00:03:32,894 It is a school of loving and learning 58 00:03:32,894 --> 00:03:36,249 and which I do appreciate very much 59 00:03:36,249 --> 00:03:37,768 and I thank God for this. 60 00:03:38,913 --> 00:03:42,567 So no community is perfect on this Earth. 61 00:03:43,400 --> 00:03:46,948 And be all the challenges and graces, 62 00:03:46,948 --> 00:03:53,920 a community is a place that we learn to love, to grow, 63 00:03:53,920 --> 00:03:55,380 to accept each other. 64 00:03:56,421 --> 00:04:00,000 A community member is like 65 00:04:00,000 --> 00:04:01,758 a jigsaw puzzle, 66 00:04:01,758 --> 00:04:03,942 complimentary to each other, 67 00:04:03,942 --> 00:04:06,583 no piece of the jigsaw puzzle 68 00:04:06,583 --> 00:04:09,765 is less important or more important, 69 00:04:09,765 --> 00:04:11,573 they complement each other 70 00:04:11,573 --> 00:04:14,526 to make the beautiful picture of God's service.
